AA home and buildings insurance provider releases road signs research
Around 25 per cent of British drivers are unable to identify many important road signs, it has been claimed.
The supplier of AA home and buildings insurance released a report today, showing the widespread motorist ignorance.
In total, 64 per cent of motorists polled for the buildings home insurance firm's survey could not say what the "cycle route ahead" sign meant.
Moreover, 42 per cent incorrectly identified the "uneven road" sign, while 22 per cent gave wrong answers for the "hump bridge" sign.
Simon Douglas, director at AA home and buildings insurance provider's AA Driving School business, said: "The road signs we selected for this test are all common on British roads, so it's worrying that so many motorists don't fully understand their meaning.
"While strong intuition and an awareness of your surroundings are valuable skills to have when driving, there is no substitute for a sound knowledge of the Highway Code and drivers who don't know what these important signs mean may be putting lives at risk, including their own."
