Start saving, supplier of Abbey life insurance urges
Savers should begin to put money aside now if they want to see England compete in the next football world cup, the provider of Abbey life insurance said today.
According to the provider, even on a "shoestring" tour, the South African trip will cost an average of £3,373 in 2010.
This means that each saver will have to put by £170 a month in order to make this payment without resorting to taking out credit.
Abbey released its research in the run-up to England's next two world cup qualifying matches.
On Saturday, the team plays Kazakhstan at Wembley - then jets off to face Belarus next Wednesday.
Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said: "It's great that England have got off to a winning start. But those who fancy the national teams' chances of not only making it to South Africa, but going all the way to the final have some serious saving to do."
